Butterfly Lanterns

I made this fractal a few years ago with a program called Ultra Fractal. UF makes creating fractals a lot of fun. It is also a lot more user friendly then Apophysis. However, I think both Apophysis and UF create beautiful fractals. I do not have a preference, both create amazing and beautiful fractals. UF is just a bit more user friendly for the average artist.

Anyway, this is one of my favorites that I created in UF.

Amigurumi!

Amigurumi: Japanese, from Amu (to knit)and Nuigurumi (doll), but refers only to crocheted dolls. This is a Japanese art of crocheting small stuffed animals for home decoration or toys.

My sister's birthday was celebrated this weekend. Since I am ridiculously broke I used my many crafting skillz to make her an adorable prezzie. She seemed to really liked it...and also promised to not let the kids play with it. Which is really good considering it weighs a lot more then it looks like. I weighed it down with a rock. Also, there are glass pebbles in the feet too. Amigurumi tend to be for display and since my sister is getting old I decided she did not need a cuddly lil' stuffie for her bed.

She has two turtles. Pika (Chad will love that) and Squirtle. Not sure how she got the names, but Squirtle has three little white spots on his back. She thought that was what I was going for with the three spots on the amigurumi turtle. ...it wasn't, lol. I was honest and told her it was just the pattern I used. I like mine better, cos it seems cuter. But at the same time, the pink is too much for me.

That black heart is on the far back 'spot' and came from my grandmother's button tin, along with the eyes. This one, that looks like a beanie on my finger, it is a leg. I crocheted it on my finger basically, and with my twisted thoughts I began to see the beanie...and the desire to write on myself with a sharpie was too overwhelming.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun and now I am getting requests for birthdays, lol.

The Ex Voodoo Knife set

If I had Fantastic Doodads wishlist, this would be on the top of the list! I love it. Beats the boring old block of wood. Granted, I dont necessarily want it for an ex, but it would look shnazzy on my counter top!

Here is one advert:
"This 5pc knife holder is unlike any cutlery set you have ever seen! This whimsical, artistic kitchen accessory holds 5 high quality stainless steel kitchen knives (included) in a rather unorthodox fashion - STORE YOUR KNIVES IN AN ANONYMOUS EFFIGY DEDICATED TO WHOMEVER YOU PLEASE! Take out your frustrations as you store your knives!"

Unfortunately it is rather expensive. I have seen it from $60 to $199.99 however, it seems to ahve a 25 year warranty, lol.

  • Also available in Chrome and Red.
  • Razor sharp precision cutting blades
  • Magnetized slots to secure knives in holder
  • Set includes plastic figure plus: 8" Chef Knife, 8" Bread Knife, 8" Carver, 5" Utility Knife, 3.5" Parer
  • Dimensions: 14.6" tall x 8" wide x 12" deep
  • 25 year warranty
  • Designer: Raffaele Iannello

Mullet with headlights?

I thought I would share my favorite Literal video. I am posting it as a thoughtful reflection since the vid is from the 80s. This is by far my favorite Youtube video. This was created by dascottjr on Youtube. I could not even begin to imagine how many times I have watched this. I know all the lyrics by heart. I ran it in the background while cooking, and it played over and over, lol. I have shown a lot of people and I changed my Youtube bookmark to open to this page, lol. I think it is so amazing.

Some of my favorite parts:
  • 'Emo kid is throwing slo-mo dove in my face. I guess that means he just flipped me the bird,' (that is my favoritest part).
  • Fonzie being cloned
  • the Glee club of the damned
  • angel bit
  • mullet with head lights, LOL.
Anyway, it is all awesome!

Dascottjr makes some pretty good literal videos. I highly recommend checking them out. Here is the link again...dascottjr

The Living Fossil

This little guy is so freaking cute! Just to let you know all text looking like this: testing text is inserted and not on Wikipedia. Anyway, wiki info...

The tuatara is a reptile endemic to New Zealand which, though it resembles most lizards, is actually part of a distinct lineage, order Sphenodontia. Rhynchocephalia, which flourished in the early Mesozoic era before the rise of the dinosaurs. The two species of tuatara are the only surviving members of its order, which flourished around 200 million years ago. Their most recent common ancestor with any other extant group is with the squamates (lizards and snakes). For this reason, tuatara are of great interest in the study of the evolution of lizards and snakes, and for the reconstruction of the appearance and habits of the earliest diapsids (the group that also includes birds and crocodiles).

Tuatara are greenish brown, and measure up to 80 cm (31 in) from head to tail-tip[4] with a spiny crest along the back, especially pronounced in males. Their dentition, in which two rows of teeth in the upper jaw overlap one row on the lower jaw, is unique among living species. They are further unusual in having a pronounced parietal eye, dubbed the "third eye", whose current function is a subject of ongoing research. They are able to hear although no external ear is present, and have a number of unique features in their skeleton, some of them apparently evolutionarily retained from fish. Although tuatara are sometimes called "living fossils", recent taxonomic and molecular work has shown that they have changed significantly since the Mesozoic era. Wiki info over.

Lots of info...if interested here is the Link

I think they are so freaking adorable and remind me a lot of a baby dragon, but without wings of course. I want one as a pet! However, I am not that mean, they are not domesticated animals. You can get them as pets, though. I just don't know if they are available in the US.

Henry seems to be the most famous of all tuatara. Henry is the world's oldest Tuatara in captivity. He is at Invercargill, New Zealand. As you see, I have read up a lot on these litte angels, and had a lot more to say, but am late at posting this. So, here are the pictures I chose....

before eating Red Bug...

Red Bug, It gives you wings!

after...

SEE, FREAKING ADORABLE!!!!

And that my good friends is where baby dragons come from. Mommy lied, they do not come from eggs, tuatara come from eggs. Baby dragons come from tuatara eating red bugs ...and maybe building a chrysalis. Though, one has never been witnessed...

Btw,yeah, I made the Red Bug and baby dragon pictures. The only actual alterations I made on the physical construction of the tuatara is that I gave him a chin tuck and an a nose job....oh and I think I fixed the appearance of a stubbed toe. The wings were made with bat wings and snake scale and the castle is indeed a Lego castle, which, to be honest, might be copyrighted. so, please be forewarned if you use this picture.

I can fold faster then you!

If it is made of duct tape and/or cardboard, I want it! ...also, the music is a bonus.

Courtesy of Videojug.com

Since all the awesomeness is in the video, I do not feel I need to go into details here on how to make one. I will give you a little heads up, you need duct tape and cardboard. If you don't have those items there are a few ways to obtain them. This is the cheaper, and my preferred method...You can beat up and mug an art student for the duct tape. Then steal some boxes from your local fast food establishment. If the art student does not have duct tape, then beat them up for not being a true artist at heart...in fact, maim them horribly!!!

Just so you know I did in fact make one, about a year ago, and it worked rather well.

Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this article concerning art student abuse are those of the author's subconscious and they do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of any agency of Google's, like blogger, or any level of the author's conscious mind. The author was an art student once, she knows the importance of duct tape. Anyway, violence listed within this post is only inner contemplation. It should not be attempted in real-world situations as it is very illegal. In other words, you would go to jail!

Edit: I just realized he did not use duct tape, I forgive him, must not have been an art student around...

The Plan

I was thinking, there is no method to this madness so far. Yet, it seems blogs tend to have a theme. Well, honestly, I would never stick to one. I am very random, which I am sure I have reflected this in my blog rather well. However, I now have a plan for my vagrant thoughts, and hopefully, I will keep it up. I will give further updates if this changes.
  • Monday: Movie Madness. Text-to-movie clips.
  • Tuesday: Terrific Teachings. Insightful information
  • Wednesday: Wonderful world of wiki. I will select a random Wiki topic and spin a tangent.
  • Thursday: Thoughtful reflections. Wonderful things from our past.
  • Friday: Fantastic Doodads. This world is full of amazing gadgets and doohickry, I hope to share some wonderful things with you.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Weekend Whimsy. Bits of art, photography, and poetry.
BTW, I fixed the comment settings. Anyone can comment now. ^ ^

I made this at xtranormal.com. It was extremely easy and user friendly and all online without a download. What made it awesome though was that carboard robot!!!!! And the hat, I absolutely LOVE that hat! I am gonna make one tonight. Look for the instructions on here later...

Anyway, go make one. Go find something better to do with text then abbreviating it to fit on your phone....

c u l8tr! and feel free to share here if you make one. ^ ^
If you want it to fit on your blog you have to alter the embedded code for the movie or your blogs html.

Upsidasium

Anyone remember Upsidasium?

I was googling, as I often find myself doing, and I stumbled across Upsidasium. I was surprised I recognized the word and remembered bits of the story before even reading the info on wiki. I have a fairly good memory, when it is about something I care about, and I care a LOT about cartoons. Got's ta love them!

I think we all should have some upsidasium. Maybe it would lift out spirits! ;-) Anyway, it was fun strolling down through those memories. So, I thought I would share.

What's Up Doc?

CARROTS!!!

The carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativus, Etymology: Middle French carotte, from Late Latin carōta, from Greek karōton, originally from the Indo-European root ker- (horn), due to its horn-like shape) is a root vegetable, usually orange, purple, red, white, or yellow in colour, with a crisp texture when fresh. The edible part of a carrot is a taproot. It is a domesticated form of the wild carrot Daucus carota, native to Europe and southwestern Asia. It has been bred for its greatly enlarged and more palatable, less woody-textured edible taproot, but is still the same species.

It is a biennial plant which grows a rosette of leaves in the spring and summer, while building up the stout taproot, which stores large amounts of sugars for the plant to flower in the second year. The flowering stem grows to about 1 metre (3 ft) tall, with an umbel of white flowers that produce a fruit called a mericarp by botanists, which is a type of schizocarp. (Copied from wiki.)

There, now don't you feel smarter!

Anyway, I had a purpose for bringing up the carrot. We must stop the war in Afghanistan. As soon as possible! If not for the children, for the carrot!!! The wild ancestors of the carrot are likely to have come from Afghanistan, which remains the center of diversity of D. carota, the wild carrot! For the love of carrots! STOP THE WAR!!!! How would you like it if people were trampling your ancestors!

(^_^) Also, I was told to write about carrots...so I did.

Edit...
I have been informed we cannot stop the war. That we are defending people from the taliban (and no Mr. spell Checker, I refuse to make that a proper noun). I was also informed that, "we're on the good side." So, as of this moment, I retract my statement, but feel it dishonest to remove it.

It appears we are also defending the carrots and their right to coexist with humanity. I apologize for my attitude earlier.

Legacy

Instantly twilight speaks
Its color through a prism leaks
And my soul not worth a dime
Am lost in all elaborate time
For as time is, time is not
For time shall always be forgot
Withering old like the distant crow
Not quite sure which way to go
As for me I know my way
Beyond the night, beyond the day
Deep within the realms of space
My flame will be in dance with grace
There all deeds shall lie a sleep
Paused within its era’s beat

Copyright December 1995, Aurelia Shaw

This is one of the only poems I have committed to memory. One of my favorites, and has been since I wrote it.

OMG! It's God! Quick, everybody hide!

I took this picture on Independence day 2009. So, either it is god or hollywood got it right and the aliens are coming! And I just thought it was a regular fireworks display later that night...

So, I started a blog...

Yep, that is what I have done. You might ask why, and there are more then enough reasons floating about in my head. Well, one reason is that I have always wanted to start a blog, to be cool like everyone else. Okay, seriously, I was bored and I realized I do not stay in touch with my friends well. I refuse to join twitter, just the name gives me the shivers. Facebook scares me, and even though I have an account (make that two actually), I rarely post to my wall, let alone a friends. The fact is, I can be shy when I think someone is looking. Though my good friends would say otherwise...blah, blah, blah, yadayadayada....she never shuts up! But that's me, and hopefully they don't mind too much.

I move a lot. I have lost track of exactly how many times I have moved. Somewhere in the fifty range. I am known as the family gypsy...which I don't mind really. However, moving a lot makes it hard to keep family and friends up to date with where I am and what I am up to. A blog seems like it would work. Still, the moving and keeping in touch thing was another reason, whether I keep to that reasoning or not...

The biggest reason of all is that one of my friends, both delightful and adorable, started a blog. And now, I am utterly jealous and had to have one too! Pink, with ruffles, and extra sugar and icing! Oh wait, I don't like pink. Black, with Lolita ruffles, all tattered and torn...on a zombie. Oh yeah, and some extra gore and blood! Okay, so the rules state I can't have all that, mostly the blood and gore bits, but I can dream. ^ ^

Anyway, this blog will be filled with vagrant thoughts, possibly some of my art and photos, and if your lucky I might share some poetry. Honestly, I am not sure where I want to go with this or if I will be faithful and keep it up. I will give it an honest try though and we shall see where I get with it all.

For now, toodles. (^_^)
